Junior Drums - Tips on Teaching Your Child Drums
Many kids want to learn how to play the drums, and there are many benefits of teaching them this skill. Not only will it get them involved with their artistic, musical side, but it will also help to teach them hand coordination and self discipline. Here are a couple of things that you should do to help teach your kid to play the drums.
First, you have to realize that there is a difference between a set of toy drums, and junior drums. Toy drums are going to be flimsy, and they aren’t really meant to be played. A set of junior drums, however, is a scaled down version of a real drum set. These drums produce real sounds. They are just smaller and easier to handle.
The next thing you should do is hire a tutor. This can be difficult sometimes. Finding a piano, or a guitar instructor is usually easy, but drum teachers may be hard to come by. If you want to find a tutor, you might need to hire a friend or relative that plays the drums. Another option is to go to a music store and ask the employees if they know any teachers in the area.
Another important thing is to set up a good space for them to play. This will benefit them, and it will benefit you. Junior drums can be very loud and not particular soothing.
At the beginning especially, you might be annoyed by the constant smashing, and off rhythm playing. By setting up a space you will be giving your child a place much like an office. They will know that when they are in that room they are practicing their drums.
If you can find a place in the basement, attic, or garage, you might also limit the noise intrusion that the drums sometimes give.
