Play a Junior Drum Kit

Surfing around the web this week I was thinking a lot about learning to play a junior drum kit and I found an interesting article that talked just about that. It was rather informative and made me realize how learning to play a junior drum kit is in fact important and worthy of attention.

A junior drum set is typically sized down so that a child can easily manage it and learn effectively just the same as an adult would on a full sized drum kit. It's very important that in your choice of drum set you select one which is a genuine musical instrument and not something more a akin to a toy or gimmick. By buying a real instrument where the drums can be tuned properly you're giving your child the best chances of success and of being properly rewarded for the practice they put in.

One difficulty you could encounter is the fact that drum tutors are not so easy to find and are far less common than piano or guitar instructors. It's very difficult to teach yourself drums especially for a child so it's probably a good idea to find out if a local tutor is present to take your child for lessons before you buy a junior drum set. Assuming there is then you should attend lessons on a weekly basis and form some kind of timetable for practice each day.

 

 

Make sure that practice remains fun while still constructive for your child. This will associate learning with enjoyment and children are far more likely to want to continue with lessons on a long term basis. Depending on the age of your child it may be a good idea to actually sit in on the lessons so that you'll know how to properly supervise them when it's time for practice at home.

Starting children early in musical education will pay big dividends later on in life. It's wrong however to force a child to learn things they do not enjoy, it's your responsibility as the parent to ensure that learning is fun and to give lots of encouragement along the way.
