Buying Your First Practise Drum Kit
The drums are an extremely popular instrument, especially for young boys. If you find your son tapping away on the table, the floor, his thighs, his head, and anything else that makes a noise, you might want to think about buying him some drums.
Now a drum kit can cost a lot of money. A good professional kit with all the bells and whistles can easily run into the five figure range. If you are buying your first drum kit, you do not have to buy something so complicated. In fact, it is actually better for the learning process if you buy them a simple practise drum kit.
Now, there are still a lot of options when you are dealing with a practise drum kit. The most common set up for a beginner set consists of only four or five pieces. This is the big bass drum and the kick pedal, a simple snare drum, and two tom tom drums. You might also find a set with a cymbal or a hi hat. This simple set up is all your child needs to get started on the drums.

Drumming takes a lot of coordination. The limbs of your body have to move independently at different rhythms. If you buy a kit that is to complex, you can make it hard to concentrate on mastering the basics. A simple four or five piece kit is really all you need to get started.
The best part about using a simple practise drum kit, is that when you buy your real junior drum kit and get uesed to playing that you can always add on to it. When you or your child progresses with drums, and is using some more complicated rhythms, you can add another piece to their set. Drums have an unlimited number of ways that they can be expanded, and developed around your playing style. But remember to start small, and work your way up.
